I bought giantimprovisers.com (there isn't anything there yet) and sent an announcement to my fellow giants of improv.
Henk, who is Dutch, sent me back this article from the Chicago Tribune.
It seems there is a theory that the average height of a country has a corralation to the equality of the distribution of wealth in that country. Of course there are other factors, but a case can be made that people in "lower classes" are shorter than the "upper classes". In England during the Industrial Revolution, the the workers were an average of 8 1/2" shorter than the bosses.
So, the Dutch have gained an inch of average height every decade since the 50s. They have now eclispsed America by shooting up to 6' 1" average, while Americans are stuck at 5' 9 1/2".
All I can say is that everyone should appreciate tall people as symbols of all that is good and right with the world. We are doing our doing our patriotic part to help America achieve economic equality, as well as to show the world the effectiveness of our sanitation and health systems. Never have I been so proud to be ungainly and lumbering.
